An Introduction
To our friends and family,
We created this site as a way of sharing our stories of faith, family and lessons learned. If you are less familiar with us, we’ll give you a brief history.
Amy and I met junior year of high school in Washington State during a football game one frigid winter evening. After seven years together, I proposed to Amy on Pinnacle Peak in Scottsdale, Arizona and after tying the knot we relocated to Phoenix.
Shortly afterwards, our families decided they wanted to join us in the sun and reap the benefits of free daily vitamin D. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in communication from Arizona State University in 2012. Amy is a Master Hair Color/Extension Specialist and educator at a salon in Scottsdale and I work at a digital marketing firm.
Our Growing Family
One day we decided we were ready to grow our family and began praying for a child. We wanted God’s will to be done in our family, according to his plan. In early 2015, we found out that our prayers had been answered and Amy was due in early November that year. On the night our son Aidan was born, a nurse wasn’t comfortable with his color after his first bath and checked his oxygen stats, which were frighteningly low.
After several hours in the NICU, we were were shocked to find out that he had a congenital heart defect known as pulmonary stenosis. Shortly after the preliminary diagnosis, Aidan was rushed to the NICU at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. He spent the first two weeks of his life undergoing treatment while Amy and I learned what it meant to completely put our trust in God.
We decided to write down everything we could remember about our experience in the form of short stories. Some are about faith, some about family and the rest are the lessons we learned along the way. Amy and I hope the stories contained on Steady After You inspire you, strengthen your faith or if nothing else, keep you up-to-date with our family’s journey.
Why Steady After You?
Steady after you is a line in the chorus of a special song. “Steady” by the Australian-American band for KING & COUNTRY is a song I (Andrew) leaned on for comfort throughout our crisis with Aidan. It is about how God keeps us steady when everything feels out of control:
You keep me steady when the sky is falling
And I’ll keep steady after You
I’ll carry on when my strength is failing
Take heart ‘cause You’re with me
So let the stars drop, whatever comes
I’ll be ready, You keep me steady
You keep me steady
I sang this song many times (tragically out of tune) to Aidan as I rocked him to sleep in his hospital room. In the evenings I would go home and listen to it on my computer to help me remember that God was in control. If you’re feeling weak and need a Guide, I highly recommend you give it a listen.
We are very excited that you are here and would like to introduce you to our son, Aidan Liam Evans:
Steady is composed by Ben Glover, Joel Smallbone, Luke Smallbone and Tedd Tjornhom. Performed by for KING & COUNTRY. Lyrics used with permission.
